Staten Island, NY - Wagner fell in non-conference action at NJIT by a 3-1 score at the Fleisher Center. The Green & White lost the first game 30-17 before rebounding to win game two 30-27 in game two. The Highlanders however would not be denied taking the last two games 30-24 and 30-20. With the loss Wagner moves to 2-10 while the NJIT improves to 8-17. Junior Sarah Garrette (Barrington, IL / Barrington) led the Seahawks with a match-high 13 kills, on .357 hitting. Sophomore Alex Klein (Cresent Springs, KY / Notre Dame Academy) continued her strong play of late with her fifth double-double of the year (13 kills, 14 digs). Freshman Erin Henneberger (Livonia, MI / Ladywood) (11 kills, 11 digs) and sophomore Gabi Hilk (Wilmington, DE / Alexis I. DuPont) (35 assists, 13 digs) each also recorded their second career double-double. Pacing the defense was the freshmen duo of Jennifer Lechman (Effingham, IL / Effingham) (26 digs) and Kelsey Rose (Springfield Township, OH / Roger Bacon) (17 digs). Despite their individual success the Seahawks could not deal with the depth of NJIT as the Highlanders had six student-athletes with at least five kills. NJIT also out-hit Wagner .147-.031 and recorded 14 aces compared to just five for the Seahawks. Wagner returns to action tomorrow at 2 pm when the Seahawks host Central Connecticut State at the Spiro Sports Center. |
