Wagner Wraps Up Play At The Colgate Invitational



Sophomore Alex Klein recorded her first two career double-doubles

Hamilton, NY - The Wagner Seahawks dropped the last two matches of the Colgate Invitational at Cotterell Court. The Green & White lost to Fairleigh Dickinson and the host Red Raiders by identical 3-1 scores.

After taking the first game 30-26 against FDU, the Seahawks lost the last three games by scores of 18-30, 27-30 and 26-30. The Knights out-hit Wagner .194-.081.

Wagner was led by sophomore Alex Klein (Cresent Springs, KY / Notre Dame Academy), who registered her first career-double with personal-bests in kills (15) and digs (15). Freshman Ashley Pepper (Washington Court House, OH / Washington Senior) also had her first career double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Gabi Hilk (Wilmington, DE / Alexis I. DuPont) had 41 assists and Jennifer Lechman (Effingham, IL / Effingham) matched Klein with a team-best 15 digs, rounding out the double-figure performers for the Green & White.

In the second match, the Seahawks dropped the first game against Colgate 21-30 but rebounded to take the second 30-27. The Green & White then ran out of gas losing the last two games 19-30 and 15-30. The Red Raiders dominated offensively, hitting .252 compared to .051 for the Seahawks.

Klein recorded another double-double with 14 kills, on .178 hitting, and 11 digs. Pepper also had her second-straight double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs. Senior Sarah Garrette (Barrington, IL / Barrington) hit double figures as well with 10 kills, on a team-best .278 hitting. Hilk led the Seahawks in assists with 40.

Wagner is now 2-6 and will next be in action on Wednesday, Oct. 26 when the Seahawks head to Loyola (MD) for a 7 pm-tilt.
