Junior Kelly Kasper had 10 kills, on .412 hitting, with five aces

Sept. 13, 2007

Box Score

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner Seahawks lost their second-straight match to Lehigh by a 3-1 score at the Spiro Sports Center. Lehigh came-from-behind to win game one 30-25 only to see the Green & White answer with a 30-26 game-two win. The Mountain Hawks then rebounded to take the last two games by scores of 30-26 and 30-25, moving to 3-8 on the year while Wagner falls to 2-3.

Up 9-8 in the first game, Wagner went on a 12-6 run, punctuated by three Kelly Kasper (Jr., West Windsor, NJ / Windsor Plainsboro South) aces. However from that point it was all Lehigh, as the Mountain Hawks closed out the game with a 16-4, winning 30-25.

Wagner dominated the second game using an early 14-4 spurt to go out in front 20-9. The Green & White withstood a late rally to win 30-26 on sophomore Alex Klein's (Cresent Springs, KY / Notre Dame Academy) kill off a beautiful feed from classmate Gabi Hilk (Wilmington, DE / Alexis I. DuPont). Wagner hit .200 during the game, led by junior Sarah Garrette's (Barrington, IL / Barrington) six kills and Hilk's 14 assists.

From that point on it was all Lehigh as they won the third game, 30-26, and the fourth, 30-25, to take the match.

Kasper led the offense, hitting a blistering .412 with 10 kills and five aces. Garrette had a match-high 14 kills on .156 hitting while Hilk had a match-high 46 assists. Klein narrowly missed her first career double-double with nine kills and 14 digs. The freshmen duo of Ashley Pepper (Washington Court House, OH / Washington Senior) and Erin Henneberger (Livonia, MI / Livonia) also had strong showings on defense with 11 digs apiece.

Shannon Spafford (14 kills, .216 hitting), Lindsay Brown (10 kills) and Brittany Thurston (22 digs) paced Lehigh.

Wagner was out-hit by Lehigh for the second-straight game (.190-.137).

Wagner now heads to Hamilton, NY for the Colgate Tournament (9/14-9/15) and the Seahawks will play against Central Arkansas on Friday at 5 pm.
