Seahawks Swimming Receives Academic All-American Accolades

Senior Jess Radka

Sept. 5, 2007

Staten Island, NY - The 2006-2007 Wagner women's swimming team has collected yet another honor. The Green & White ranked sixth in the latest College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) All-American Team listings. The women boasted a GPA of 3.530, just .036 points away from leader, the University of South Carolina.

"I am extremely happy and proud of them for their hard work in the classroom," said head coach Sean Raffile. "This shows how well they do at balancing academics and athletics."

The women were only bested by South Carolina (3.606), Iona (3.580), Vanderbilt (3.563), Butler (3.562) and Virginia Tech (3.550). Also joining Wagner from the Northeast Conference school was Saint Francis (PA) with a GPA of 3.280. Other notable institutions included on the CSCAA list include Harvard, Boston College, Brown University and the University of Notre Dame.

In all, an astonishing 111 Division I women's swimming and diving teams earned Academic All-America honors. Nine of these teams boasted a GPA of 3.50 or better while 104 schools scored 3.0 or higher.

The Seahawks, who return 12 letterwinners, begin the 2007-08 season October 13th at the Central Connecticut State Invitational in New Britain, CT.
