Seahawk Swimming Remains In Fourth Place After Day Two Of NEC Championships

Landover, MD -- Wagner College women's swimming was back in action on day two of the NEC Championships held in Landover, Maryland. The Green & White were able to retain their fourth place ranking as they have now tallied a total of 334 points. They trail third place Central Connecticut State by 42 points, with first place Gardner-Webb holding strong at 499 points.

As for Wagner's output today they started off their second day of action with a fifth place showing in the 200 yard medley relay. The group of Halley Allen (Bryan, TX/Bryan), Amanda Males (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg), Jessica Hart (Summerfield, NC/Northwest), and Molly McDonald (Hickory, NC/Seton Home School) put up a time of 1:50.15.

Following that was one of the highlights of the day for Wagner as the Seahawk school record fell twice in the 400 yard IM. Freshman Melanie Rodriguez-Lapman (Chesire, CT/Chesire) grabbed second in the event at 4:34.31 which now stands as the Wagner record. Senior Kate Wilson (Brentwood, CA/Liberty) also cracked the previous record with a time of 4:34.91 good for fifth place overall. Julie Gardner (Concord, CA/Concord) rounded out the scoring in that event for Wagner taking eighth place at 4:47.53.

The Green & White came up big in the 100 yard butterfly as well when Jess Radka (Reading, PA/Holy Name) and Hart notched second and fourth place respectively. Radka touched the wall at 57.81, while Hart was not far behind at 58.11. It was a 200 yard event to follow, this time the freestyle, as senior co-captain Brigitta Roser (Ithaca, NY/Lansing) took fifth place at 1:55.11. McDonald also notched points for Wagner coming in 11th place with a time of 1:59.65.

Meanwhile the 100 yard breaststroke showcased a couple of Seahawk veterans when Males picked up eighth place at 1:10.14, and Nicole Paduano (North Haven, CT/North Haven) was good for 11th at 1:10.46. Allen teamed up with Heather Roman-Green (Woodstock, NY/Kingston) to earn points in the 100 yard backstroke with Allen finishing in ninth place at a time of 1:00.92, while Green took 12th at 1:02.65.

The final scoring of the day for Wagner came on the 800 yard freestyle relay as the Seahawk quartet of Roser, Wilson, Radka, and Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) finished in 2nd place at 7:41.59. This time was also noteworthy at it qualifed Wagner for the upcoming USA Swimming Spring Nationals. The finish in yesterday's 400 yard medley relay also qualified for the Nationals.
