Wagner Swimming In Fourth Place After Day One Of NEC Championships



Junior Halley Allen was part of two third place relay finishes and took eigth overall in the 50 yard freestyle

Landover, MD -- The Wagner College women's swim team is in fourth place with 149 points after an impressive showing at day one of the Northeast Conference swimming championships being held in Landover, Maryland. The Seahawks trail Central Connecticut State for third place by 45 points, while Gardner-Webb leads the way in first with 212 points.

Wagner got things going well early as the quartet of freshman Jessica Hart (Summerfield, NC/Northwest), seniors Brigitta Roser (Ithaca, NY/Lansing), Molly McDonald (Hickory, NC/Seton Home School) and junior Halley Allen (Bryan, TX/Bryan) took third place overall in the 200 yard freestyle relay at 1:37.50. Every Wagner top time on the day would break the team or individual best time this season.

The 500 yard freestyle followed and proved to a be a big source of points for Wagner as Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) came in third with a time of 5:00.58, while senior Kate Wilson (Brentwood, CA/Liberty) was not far behind in fifth at 5:05.50. Rounding out the scorers in this event were Melanie Rodriguez-Lapman (Chesire, CT/Chesire) in eighth at 5:15.00, Roser in tenth at 5:06.91, and Colleen Bowman (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppague) in eleventh at 5:07.89.

Jess Radka (Reading, PA/Holy Name) had a quality showing in the 200 yard IM hauling in fourth place as she hit the wall at 2:10.27. Meanwhile in the 50 yard freestyle Allen was back in the scoring column in eighth place with a time of 24.95. Hart and McDonald also put a dent on the scoreboard taking 13th and 16th respectively with times of 25.27 and 25.70.

The day was rounded out for the Green & White with the group of Allen, Roser, Hart, and senior Amanda Males (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg) tallying third in the 400 yard medley relay at 3:59.42.

Wagner will be right back in action tomorrow for day two of the NEC Championships. Some events to look forward to are Brigitta Roser in the 200 yard freestyle and Jess Radka in the 100 yard butterfly.
