July 31, 2007 Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College Women's Soccer program has announced the hiring of Heather Barclay and Elizabeth Van Parys to assist head coach Mike Minielli and his up-and-coming 2007 campaign. Both women are recent graduates of their respective institutions where they accomplished heralded success on the soccer field. Barclay, a 2007 graduate of LaSalle University where she played forward, comes back to Staten Island after growing up and attending St. Joseph by the Sea on nearby Hylan Boulevard. An experienced teacher of the game, she's spent more than four years as an instructor for Tab Ramos' Soccer Programs as well as serving as an assistant director for his soccer camps. She also spent a winter as an intern for the New York/New Jersey MetroStars - now the Red Bulls - in their Sports Marketing and Promotion Department. Originally hailing from Erie, Pennsylvania, Elizabeth Van Parys comes to Grymes Hill after spending last season as an assistant coach for her alma mater, Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa. where she had graduated and played one year prior. A four-year starting goalkeeper at Allegheny during her playing days, she too has had extensive experience with instructing, particularly the difficult task of minding the net. Last season she spent time coaching not only Allegheny's women's goalkeepers but also proved an asset to their men's team and their goalkeepers as well. |
