Seahawks Fall to FDU, 2-0

Sophomore Brooke Keany had five shots on goal against FDU on Sunday

Oct. 21, 2007

Box Score

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College Women's Soccer team dropped a Northeast Conference game this afternoon, faltering to the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson (5-10-0, 3-3-0 NEC) by a 2-0 score at a sunny Wagner College Stadium. The Seahawks move to a record of (3-10-1, 1-4-0 NEC) on the year.

Unfortunately for Wagner it didn't take long for the visiting Knights to take quick command of the Staten Island matinee.

With just 9:41 eclipsed in the match Fairleigh Dickinson sophomore forward Jennifer Arceneaux made a quick inside-out move on the right side 15 yards from Seahawk freshman goalkeeper Samantha Schueschner (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield) and found room for a score in the left corner of the goal to put her Knights up early, 1-0.

With the Seahawks struggling to get the ball into FDU territory for much of the first half, it opened up the game well enough for the Knights to create 11 shot opportunities in the opening 45 minutes - they would go on to tally 17 for the game to Wagner's 10 - another of which found the back of the net just five minutes after Arceneaux's goal.

It was FDU's Christine Niven who had the score in the 14th minute, as she turned a throw-in from Lisa-Marie Curti into an assist giving FDU a commanding two-goal advantage that would stick for the remainder of the game.

The Seahawks would come up with a few scoring opportunities when sophomore forward Brooke Keany (Rumson, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) managed a number of good looks on goal that were all ultimately thwarted by Knight goalkeeper Rachel Derrico.

The Rumson native recorded five shots on goal on the day.

As for goalkeeping, Schueschner would finish with six saves for the Seahawks.

The Green & White will look to bounce back this Friday when they travel to Hamden, Connecticut to face the Bobcats of Quinnipiac University. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
