Wagner Soccer Drops Close Call To Temple, 1-0

Junior Danielle Telleria and the Seahawks will play the Jaspers of Manhattan College this Tuesday

Sept. 17, 2006

Box Score

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College Women's Soccer team lost a close, physical game to Temple University this afternoon at Wagner College Stadium in a non-conference match-up by the score of 1-0. They now move to a record of (0-6-0) on the season.

Early on the Seahawks dominated play, keeping the ball in Temple (2-4-0) territory consistently for the first five minutes and in the process getting three good shots on goal.

Unfortunately, however, they couldn't connect any of them as Temple's defense and goalkeeping proved to solid. Junior forward Danielle Telleria (Orlando, FL/Winter Springs), freshman forward Brooke Keany (Rumson, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) - who was playing with a broken arm - and freshman midfielder Danielle Sheehan (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) all had promising opportunities but were turned away.

At halftime, the score was still knotted up with both teams showing blank on the scoreboard.

It wasn't until the 55th minute of the game that anyone would untie the knot when the Owls' Cori Gallagher scored from 26 yards out off a free kick.

The Seahawks wouldn't give up another goal for the rest of the game, but they wouldn't be able to get on the board either as the Owls' defensive mentality and physical play stifled the Wagner attack from there on out.

In goal, senior Ashley Wilson (Secane, PA/Upper Darby) had a very respectable performance as her only blemish was the Gallagher free kick, she would record six saves on the afternoon.

The Seahawks next game is this Tuesday when they take on the Jaspers of Manhattan College at 3 p.m.
