Soccer Bests Dominican 2-1 in Second Warm-Up

Senior captain Danielle Telleria got Wagner's offense started with a goal off a pass from Brooke Keany

Aug. 21, 2007

Orangeburg, NY - The Wagner College women's soccer team looked extremely sharp in their follow-up exhibition game by outscoring Dominican College on the road 2-1 yesterday evening.

Two Seahawks - a veteran and a rookie apiece - found the back of the net for goals giving the Green & White a little offensive ignition heading into their 2007 season opener with LaSalle University in just 11 days.

Senior captain Danielle Telleria (Orlando, FL/Winter Springs) put it between the pipes for a goal just ten minutes into the first thirty-minute period off a cross from sophomore forward Brooke Keany (Rumson, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven).

Freshman forward Chelsea Kalika (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) scored Wagner's second goal of the game ten minutes into the second thirty-minute period off a nifty cross from fellow freshman forward Briana Vassallo (Saddle Brook, NJ/Paramus Catholic) for a score and the game-deciding goal.

"It felt really good to get a win," said Wagner Head Coach Mike Minielli. "We improved a lot from Saturday which was a really good thing and we played with a much higher intensity level. We pressured the ball better which was something we talked about before the game that we wanted to execute. There's still a bunch of things we need to work on but that's only normal after only five days of practice.

"We're working on getting all of those things refined before our first game in eleven days."

The Seahawks get ready for a reunion of sorts when they'll square-off with Green & White players from the past in the annual Alumni Game this Sunday at noon.

The first game of the regular season is slated for August 31 at LaSalle University. Game time is 7 p.m.
