Art Redmond begins his third season at Wagner College and his 22nd year as a coach. He previously spent a five-year stint as the head boy's basketball coach at Manchester Regional High School. He also served as an admission's counselor at Passaic County Community College since 2002. In 2007-08 he helped the Green & White match its overall win total (7) and Northeast Conference win total (5) for the last three years combined while coming within a game of the playoffs. Redmond was the Associate Head Coach of Division II Felician College from 1999-2001 and coached in a number of different capacities at his alma mater John F. Kennedy High School, most recently as Associate Head Coach, from 1988-1999, helping them to three Passaic County Championships. He got his start in coaching following his graduation from Wagner in 1986 at Saint Mary's High School in Rutherford, NJ as the head coach for two years. While at JFK he coached former All-Atlantic 10 selection James Hargrove, who starred at Duquesne. In addition to his work on the court, he has worked as a criminal investigator in the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office, a teacher and a counselor. Redmond played his collegiate basketball at Wagner from 1981-86 alongside Wagner great Terrance Bailey and was elected into the Wagner College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2001. He was a 1,000 point scorer for the Green & White and ranks seventh all-time in school history in field goals (541) and ninth in field goal percentage (.560). During the 1984-85 season, he led the NEC in field goal percentage with a .560 mark and was instrumental in Wagner's 84-77 upset victory over Duke on Jan. 5, 1983 in Cameron Indoor Stadium, scoring 22 points. He also is a member of the JFK high school Hall of Fame. Following his storied career at Wagner he played two years of professional basketball in Argentina from 1988-89. He was a projected NBA draft pick had it not been for a compound fracture to his tibia & fibula in college. Redmond graduated from Wagner in 1986 with degrees in business administration with a concentration in finance and arts administration. He currently resides in Maywood, NJ with his wife Angela, a 1985 Wagner graduate, and their children; Ashlee (19), Artis (16) and Amberlee (11). |
