Hannafin enters her third season as a coach at Wagner College. The Staten Island native returned to her alma mater following a successful 17-year head coaching career at Notre Dame Academy on the island. There she led NDA to 236 wins while helping guide 17 of her players to college scholarships and an impressive 75 percent of players to National Honor Society status. Last season she helped the Green & White match its overall win total (7) and Northeast Conference win total (5) for the last three years combined while coming within a game of the playoffs. In 1997, she was named the Daily News Coach of the Year and taught third grade over the last five years at Public School 53. Before that she was employed at Sacred Heart Elementary School for nine years. Hannafin is no stranger to the Seahawk community or Mikalauskas as she was a four-year starter from 1985-1989 and was inducted into the Wagner College Hall of Fame in 2004. She helped lead the Green & White to their only Northeast Conference (NEC) title in 1989 and was named the NEC Player of the Year. She ranks third on the all-time Seahawk career list in scoring (1,612 points), fourth in scoring average (14.5 ppg), first in steals (267), third in field goals (588) and second in free throws (397). She was also named team MVP her last three years and served as team captain as a junior and a senior. Hannafin graduated from Wagner in 1989 with a degree in elementary education. She currently resides on Staten Island with her husband John and their boys John (10) and Steven (7). |
