Wagner Wrestling Drops Three At Gardner-Webb Quad

Senior Justin Ensign went undefeated on the day, winning all three of his matches by decision

Nov. 12, 2006

Results

Boiling Springs, NC - The Wagner College Wrestling team dropped all three matched on the day at the Gardner-Webb quad. The first defeat came to the host, Gardner-Webb, as they eclipsed the Seahawks, 40-9. The next came to fellow North Carolina resident, the Duke University Blue Devils, 41-9. The final match of the day saw the Green & White grapplers fall to Newberry College, 35-8.

Against Gardner-Webb, the Seahawks were paced by senior Justin Ensign (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East), who defeated David Pelsang by a decision, 9-2, in the 157 lb. weight class. Wagner also received a win when Gardner-Webb wrestler Alex Piasecki got injured in the match and had to forfeit in the 149 lb. class. Senior Patrick Larkin (Danbury, CT/Danbury) got credit for the win.

In the match against the Blue Devils of Durham, Wagner was paced by another great performance by Ensign in the 149 lb. class, who earned a decision, 5-3, against Duke grappler Voris Tejada. The heavyweight match was also a notch in the Seahawks' proverbial belt as John Graeffe got credit for a victory via forfeit.

In the final match of the quad extravaganza against Newberry, Wagner saw two good battles won by their warriors on the mat. In the 125 lb. class, red-shirt freshman Nicholas Keshecki (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) won in a decision, 9-3, against Newberry opponent Chauncey McElheney. And keeping up with a stellar, undefeated day, Justin Ensign won yet again in the 149 lb. class against Newberry Indian Matt Black, 9-5.

The Seahawks next tackle the mats this Tuesday in their first home match of the season against local rival and the #11 team in the country, the Hofstra University Pride. That will start at 7 p.m. at the Spiro Sports Center.
