Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College wrestling team tied Delaware State at 22 in the final showdown of three-team tri-match held at the Spiro Sports Center this afternoon. They fell to Boston University 30-6 earlier in the day.

The Seahawks might not have come away with a victory but what they get was another stellar performance from one of their freshman.

Instead of Sam Hoerdemann (Apex, NC/Cary) - who put in a brilliant two-win showing down in Charlottesville in the beginning of the month - it was rookie 184-pounder Ed Broderick (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) who came away with two victories. In his first match against Boston University he scored a 6-5 decision over Ryan Malo and in the tie against Delaware State he grabbed a 6-1 decision over Kyle Skinner.

It looked like the Seahawks were going to chalk up their first win of the year against Delaware State, especially after Broderick scored a clutch three team points for his decision which gave Wagner a comfortable 22-11 lead with two weight classes remaining.

Unfortunately, however, the Seahawks weren't able to hold on as they allowed Delaware State a pin at 197 and a tech. fall at 285 to leave the final decision knotted up at 22 between the two schools after it was all said and done.

The Seahawks now move ahead to prepare for the East Stroudsburg Open this Saturday in East Stroudsburg, Pa.
