Fairfax, VA - The Wagner College Wrestling team saw their season come to an end today at George Mason University at the CAA Championships. They finished 11 out of 11 teams with 2 points in the overall standings. The Seahawks were highlighted by senior Justin Ensign (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) in the 149 lb. weight class as well as red-shirt freshman Angelo D'Amico (Kenilworth, NJ/Seton Hall Prep). D'Amico garnered his first collegiate win at the heavyweight division by defeating Rider grappler Nick Ciufo in a 20-11 major decision after falling to second-seeded Chris Cowen of Hofstra in his first match by a 16-1 technical fall. He would then bow out of the tournament by taking a medical forfeit to Jeremiah Fennell of Campbell. Ensign, in his last CAA Championships of his Wagner career, would win his second match over Campbell wrestler Chris Mazzatta in a 2-0 decision after giving second-seeded Rider opponent Mike Kessler a scare but losing in an 8-7 decision. The senior New Jersey native would fall in his final match of his career to sixth-seeded Kaylen Baxter of Old Dominion in a 10-1 major decision. All other Seahawk wrestlers went two matches and out in the double-elimination formatted tournament. The winners of the respective weight classes as well as the overall team champion will be determined tomorrow at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. |
