Keydets Squeak By Seahawks, 13-8

Mike Hess scored a goal and won 10 faces offs in the game

April 21, 2007

Final Stats

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's lacrosse team dropped a tightly-contested MAAC Conference match-up this afternoon at Wagner College Stadium to the visiting Virginia Military Institute Keydets (2-10, 1-5 MAAC) by a score of 13-8. The Seahawks now fall to a record of 0-13, 0-6 MAAC.

Neck and neck up until the final period, the Seahawks had a one-goal lead on the Keydets with 6:01 left in the third when senior captain Josh Hamilton (Millersville, MD/Serverna Park) - playing in his final home game of his career - caught a pass from sophomore attack Evan Shull (Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) and tossed it in the proverbial bucket with a man advantage.

Shull had gotten busy himself in the scoring department earlier, in the first period, as he would go on - along with junior midfielder Ryan Martin (Florham Park, NJ/Bayley Ellard) - to net two goals on the afternoon.

That brief lead that Hamilton helped secure in the middle of that third period, unfortunately for the Seahawks, wouldn't last too long.

Almost a minute later the Keydets would even the score with 4:59 remaining in the third, and from then would go on an offensive explosion by scoring the last six goals of the game while blanking the Seahawks' offensive attack from the Hamilton goal on.

Also in his final home game - as all four other seniors (Anthony Scanlon, Mac Schilcher, Ryan Pepe, Josh Hamilton) were honored before the game, as it was "Senior Day" - Ian Gallagher (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) recorded 12 saves in goal after spending all 60 minutes in the cage.

The Seahawks now prepare for their final two games of the 2007 season - both on the road. First up it's a trip to Philadelphia to take on the Saint Joseph's University Hawks at 3:30 p.m. this Wednesday.
