Somerset, NJ - Senior P/K Piotr Czech (Keyport, NJ/ Keyport) and senior LB Bryan Brand (Placerville, CA/ Santa Barbara CC) ended their Wagner football careers in grand style as they earned NEC weekly honors for their efforts in the Seahawk's 41-27 win at Jacksonville last Saturday. Brand picked up his first honor of the season, being named NEC Defensive Player of the Week after making 13 tackles (12 solo) at Jacksonville. Czech is no stranger to the Weekly Honor Roll now having earned NEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors on six different occasions this year. The preseason all-NEC kicker nailed two field goals and was perfect on all five PATs. One of his field goal makes was from 50 yards out, marking the second straight week he has converted from 50 yards or longer. Brand was the Seahawks' leading tackler all season and ranks 20th nationally in tackles per game (10.64). Brand is also the conference's third-leading tackler with 117 takedowns. Czech, meanwhile, continued to re-write the Wagner record book throughout his magical season that saw him convert 16-of-19 field goals, including an NEC and a Wagner record 56-yarder vs. Saint Francis (PA) on Nov. 10. Czech also averaged 40.2 yards per punt this season with a career-long of 70 yards coming at Robert Morris on 10/13. Both Brand and Czech were instrumental in Wagner achieving a 7-4 record and a 3-3 mark in the NEC. It marked the first time since 2002 that the Seahawks have won seven games in a season. The Seahawks are ranked No. 7 in the latest Sports Network Mid-Major Poll. |
