Somerset, NJ - Wagner punter/placekicker Piotr Czech (Keyport, NJ/Keyport) earned his fifth Northeast Conference (NEC) Special Teams Player of the Week honor this season for his efforts vs. Saint Francis (PA) last Saturday. In the second quarter, Czech broke his own NEC record by connecting on a 56-yard field goal, with room to spare, in the Seahawks' 23-20 setback. The strong-legged Czech, who has caught the attention of professional football scouts, nailed two 54-yarders last season to set the previous NEC mark. The senior kicking specialist, who also excels in his punting duties (40.1 average) and on kickoffs, added a 34-yard field goal later in the second quarter. He finished 2of-3 on field goals and punted five times for a 37.6 yards per kick average, while dropping two punts inside the Red Flash 20-yard line. He also averaged 66.4 yards per attempt on kickoffs. Czech also set a Wagner record for most field goals made in a season vs. Saint Francis (PA). With 14 field goals in 16 attempts (87.5%) on the year, Czech passed Tom O'Riordan, who split the uprights 13 times in 1984. Czech's final game as a Seahawk will come in a none-conference game at Jacksonville on Sat., Nov. 17 in a 1:00 pm kickoff. Wagner (6-4, 3-3) is looking for its first seven-win season since 2002. |
