Marlon Sears is in his second season as a member of the Seahawks staff. His responsibilities include serving as recruiting coordinator along with practice and game preparation. Sears, who works extensively with Wagner's frontcourt players, joined the Seahawks in July, 2006 after spending four seasons as an assistant coach at Binghamton University. While at Binghamton, Sears oversaw regional recruiting efforts in addition to administrating player academics, mentoring and development. Sears played an integral role in recruiting and player development for the Bearcats and in 2005-06, his final season at Binghamton, helped guide them to an 18-11 record and a second place finish in the America East Conference. Prior to pursuing a collegiate coaching career, Sears was a standout collegian himself, earning NAIA Second-Team All-American at Newman University in Wichita, KS. In his senior season at Newman, Sears averaged 22 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Following his graduation in 2001, he then played three seasons overseas. He competed one season in the Spain LEB 1 League before prospering two more seasons in the Pro B League in France. Prior to his senior year at Newman, Sears played two years at Seward County Community College in Liberal, KS. In his second season at Seward, he helped lead the squad to a 35-3 record and a third place finish in the NJCAA Tournament. Sears spent his junior year at Western Illinois University, where he was a starter for the Leathernecks. Before embarking on his collegiate playing career, Sears was a First-Team All-State guard at Derby HS (KS), where he scored more than 1,300 career points. Following his senior season, Sears finished second in the Gatorade National Player of the Year for the state of Kansas. |
