New Britain, CT - The Seahawks hit the path once again this past weekend as they ran against seven of the 10 Northeast Conference (NEC) programs at the Ted Owen Invitational. The men placed eighth out of 14 teams while the women came in sixth out of 11. The men were once again led senior Mouhamed Halwani (Staten Island, NY/Xavieran), who finished the 8K course with a time of 26:44, a mere 24 seconds behind NEC top finisher Jacob Gurzler of Quinnipiac. Pacing the women was junior Brecken Drager (Loomis, CA/Del Oro). Drager took eighth out of the 132 runners with a time of 18:21 and was the fifth competitor in the NEC to cross the finish line. "I was extremely pleased with the way we performed this week," said head coach Joe Stasi. "It was important for us to do well here because we will be seeing this course two more times this year." Reigning NEC Rookie of the Week freshman Derrek Rammelkamp (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) picked up where he left off crossing the tape in 22nd place with a time of 27:20. Adding to the furry was sophomore James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) placed 26th, junior Brian Halling (Amherst, NH/Souhegan) took 37th, freshman Thomas Rammelkamp (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) came in 43rd, freshman Brian Doxey (West Islip, NY/West Islip) placed 60th and junior Allen Koehler (Okeana, OH/William Henry Harrison) rounded out the Seahawks with a 73rd place finish. Drager was supported by senior Meaghan Robbins (Waymart, PA/Western Wayne) who had another stellar performance this week, finishing 47th with a time of 19:32Rounding out the women's side, sophomore Jenna Naglieri (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) was 66th, Ashley Mallen (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) took 73rd, junior Ryan Rodgers (Islip, NY/Islip) placed 93rd and sophomore Nicole Panik (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) finished in 109th place. Wagner will enjoy a few weekends off as they do not compete again until October 5th when the Seahawks will compete in the METS Championships at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx, NY. |
