Men's Cross Country Nabs Athlete & Rookie of the Week

Senior Mouhamed Halwani Finished 7th at the Stony Brook Invite.

Sept. 11, 2007

Somerset, NJ - The Northeast Conference has selected senior Mouhamed Halwani (Staten Island, NY/XaverIan) as the male cross country Athlete of the Week while freshman Derek Rammelkamp (Millerplace, NY/Millerplace) received NEC Rookie of the Week.

"They both showed a great improvement from last week" commented head coach Joe Stasi on Halwani and Rammelkamp.

Halwani fought the blistering sun at the Stony Brook Invitational on Friday to finish in seventh place with a time of 18:17.87.

"Mouhamed seems to get very confident the better he runs," remarked Stasi. "Hopefully this kind of finish this early in the season can help him establish himself in the league."

Rammelkamp brought his A-game as well, finishing 15th at Stonybrook. He finished his second collegiate race as the 3rd Seahawk to cross the tape with a time of 19:00.54.

"Derek came to us as a top runner in high school," said Stasi. "He is showing no signs of slowing down from where he left off at Millerplace."

This is the first time in program history that Wagner men's cross country has received NEC Athlete and Rookie of the week in the same week.
