Sept. 7, 2007
Stony Brook, NY - The Seahawks traveled to Stony Brook University for a sun soaked second meet of their 2007 season. Both the men's and women's teams placed fourth in the competition. "We ran very a very competitive race today," said head coach Joe Stasi. "I saw great improvement from last week, something that is a very pleasing sign at the beginning of the season." This home improvement started off with senior Mouhamed Halwani (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) running 18:18.87 and placing seventh in the race. Backing Halwani was sophomore James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) who broke away from the pack within the last 400 meters of the race to improve several places to a 12th place finish. "It's efforts like these that really make me hopeful for a great season," commented Stasi on Johnson's break away performance. Rounding out the pack was freshman Derek Rammelkamp (Millerplace, NY, Millerplace) running 19:04.84 followed by junior Brian Halling (Amherst, NH/Souhegan) at 19:15.20. Rammelkamp's twin brother Thomas Rammelkamp (Millerplace, NY/Millerplace) joined the group running 19:20.54 with junior Allen Koehler (Okeana, OH/William Henry Harrison) and freshman Brian Doxey (West Islip, NY/West Islip) finishing in 32nd and 37th, respectively. The women's side was led, once again, but junior Brecken Drager (Loomis, CA/Del Oro) as she came in fourth place running a time of 16:44.68. Like Johnston, senior Meaghan Robbins (Waymart, PA/Western Wayne) found her stride in the last leg of the race to plow past several competitors for a ninth place finish. Finishing up for Wagner was junior Ashley Mallen (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) running 18.27.09, sophomore Jenna Naglieri (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) running 18:36.15, and junior Ryan Rodgers (Islip, NY/Islip) with a time of 10:13.09. "These kids are running their hearts out," boasts Stasi. "This is going to be a very exciting year." Wagner returns to the path on September 15th at the Ted Owen Invite at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT. |
