Staten Island, NY -- The Northeast Conference released their weekly cross country awards earlier today and two Wagner Seahawks were honored. Sophomore Brecken Drager (Loomis, CA/Del Oro) was named athlete of the week for the women. Meanwhile for the men, freshman James Johnston (Middle Village, NY/Longwood) was tabbed as the rookie of the week by the league office.

Drager was honored after her stellar outing at the Monmouth XC Kick-Off to start the season. Drager took fourth overall in the race clocking a time of 15:39.0. Drager was the top Northeast Conference finisher in the run and helped propel the women to a third place outing. This is the second award for Drager who garnered rookie of the week honors to open up last season's competition.

As for Johnston he assisted the Wagner men in a fourth place standing at the same event with an impressive time of 20:06.8. This was the first collegiate race for Johnston who came in seventh overall.

Next up for the Wagner Cross Country squads is the Hofstra Invitational jumping off this Saturday at Bethpage Park in Farmingdale, Long Island.
