Lincroft, NJ - The Wagner men's and women's cross country teams kicked off their 2007 season at the Fourth Annual Monmouth Cross Country Kick-Off at Thompson Park in Lincroft, N.J. on Saturday. The women's team placed third out of eight teams while the men came in fifth out of eight. Junior Brecken Drager (Loomis, CA/Del Oro) placed second with a time of 14:53 while sophomore James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) led the men with a 15th place finish. The Seahawks had three of their five women's runners place in the top twenty with Drager in second, Meaghan Robbins (Waymart, PA/Western Wayne) coming in 12th with a time of 15:44 while Jenna Naglieri (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) placed 16th running16:24. Freshman Derek Rammelkamp (Millerplace, NY/Millerplace) helped heat things up on the men's side, running 19:57 and placing 21st in his first collegiate race, just fifteen seconds behind Wagner top finisher Johnston. "I'm very pleased with the way we ran on Saturday," said cross country head coach Joe Stasi. "These kids are the kind of athletes that make teams successful. This will be a very exciting season to watch. Ricardo Estremera from Albany won the men's title for the second straight year, running 18:51, while female teammate Laura Cummings ran 14:15 and won the women's title for the Great Danes. Albany won last year's men's and women's team titles. The Seahawks hit the path next at the Seawolves Invite Stony Brook University in Long Island, NY. |
