Bronx, NY -- The Wagner College cross country squad ventured out of Staten Island and into the Bronx for the Metropolitan Championships earlier today. Running in conditions that can be described as "brisk" the women logged a ninth place finish, while the men tallied an eleventh place mark. Starting with the women it was junior Meaghan Robbins (Waymart, PA/Western Wayne) leading the proverbial charge with a 24th place time of 19:50. Not far behind rounding out the top 40 was senior Maris Reutzel (Meadville, PA/Meadville) who crossed the finish line in 20 minutes and 17 seconds. Freshman Jenna Naglieri (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) landed in 50th place clocking a time of 20:43. Not far behind Naglieri was Ashley Mallen (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) in 52nd place at 20:48. Other finishers for the Seahawks included freshmen Jen Wejsa (Wantage, NJ/High Point) and Nicole Panik (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) at 59th and 64th place respectively with times of 21:33 and 21:50. Turning to the men, senior Kyle Sultzer (Archbald, PA/Valley View) navigated the Van Cortlandt Park course nicely turning in a 22nd place time of 26:10. Sophomore Allen Koehler (Okeana, OH/William Henry Harrison) ran his way to 56th place at 27:38. Former NEC rookie of the week, James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) garnered a 61st place time of 27:54. Nipping at his heels was junior Mouhamed Halwani (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) who came through the chute in 62nd place at 27:58. Other finishers for Wagner included Andrew Keating (Riverside, RI/Mount Saint Charles) who ended in 82nd place at 29:33. The team now has some downtime before lacing them up again on the 21st for the CCSU Mini-Meet at Stanley Quarter Park in the Nutmeg State. This meet will serve as a tune-up for the Northeast Conference Championships which loom large on the 27th of October. |
