Bethpage, NY -- The Wagner College track and field squads were back in action earlier today taking part in the first annual Hofstra University Cross Country Invitational out in Bethpage, New York. The men led the way on this day taking third place out of four teams while the women came in fourth out of four teams. Kyle Sultzer (Archbald, PA/Valley View) came in 11th place to spearhead the men's effort at 16:22.06. Current NEC rookie of the week James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) was not far behind in 17th place at 16:25. Sophomore Allen Koehler (Okeana, OH/William Henry Harrison) and freshman Kevin Kearney (Haddonfield, NJ/St. Joe's Prep) rounded out Wagner finishers in the top 30 as they came in at 26th and 28th respectively with times of 17:10.56 and 17:25. The remaining runners for Wagner were Mouhamed Halwani (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) in 32nd place at 17:55.81 and Daniel McCartney (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) in 37th place at 18:52.24. Turning to the women, reigning NEC athlete of the week, sophomore Brecken Drager (Loomis, CA/Del Oro) paced a host of Wagner runners with a ninth place finish at 19:50.58. Meaghan Robbins (Waymart, PA/Western Wayne) was next on the list in 17th position with a time of 20:15.12. Senior Maris Reutzel (Meadville, PA/Meadville) cracked the top 25 with a 22nd place time of 20:31.68. Freshman Jennifer Nagliera (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) did likewise with a time of 20:39.74. Sophomore Ryan Rogers (Islip, NY/Islip) rounded out the top 30 runners crossing the finish line at 21:13.84. Other finishers for Wagner included Ashley Mallen (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa), Jennifer Wejsa (Wantage, NJ/High Point) and Nicole Panik (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) at 32nd, 33rd, and 39th place. The Seahawks now have a weekend off before they return to action on the 22nd of September for the Quinnipiac Invite in Hamden, CT. |
