Sept. 2, 2006
Lincroft, NJ - The Wagner College men's and women's cross country squads battled the elements earlier today as they opened the 2006 season with success at the Monmouth University Cross Country Kick-Off held at Thompson Park. Despite torrential rain, menacing skies, and magnificent wind gusts the women worked up a third place finish while the men tallied a fourth place mark. Starting with the women, sophomore Brecken Drager (Loomis, CA/Del Oro) rung up a fourth place time at 15:39.0 to lead the Seahawk contingent. Meaghan Robbins (Waymart, PA/Western Wayne) was not far behind as she rounded out the top 10 with a mark of 16:07.8. Veteran Maris Reutzel (Meadville, PA/Meadville) clocked a 13th place time at 16:20.1, while in 15th place taking part in her first collegiate race freshman Jennifer Naglieri (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) came through the chute at 16:26.9. Sophomore Ryan Rogers (Islip, NY/Islip) also ran well taking 19th place with a mark of 16:41.0. Other finishers for the Green & While included Jennifer Wesja (Wantage, NJ/High Point), Nicole Panik (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa), and Ashley Mallen (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa). That trio took 21st, 24th, and 27th respectively. For the men, freshman James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) anchored the attack with a seventh place finish at 20:06.8. Senior Kyle Sultzer (Archbald, PA/Valley View) used a last second sprint to slide into 18th place at 20:32.9 just ahead of Temple's Travis Gerhardt. Shortly thereafter the tandem of Mouhamed Halwani (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) and Allen Koehler (Okeana, OH/William Henry Harrison) took 21st and 22nd with marks of 20:56.6 and 20:58.8. Newcomer Kevin Kearney (Haddonfield, NJ/St. Joe's Prep) closed things out for the Seahawk runners with a time of 21:30.7 which was good for 31st place. Next up for Wagner will be the Hofstra Invitational on Saturday September 9 on Long Island. |
