Somerset, NJ - The Wagner women's indoor track & field team has been picked eighth while the men have been selected 10th in the 2007-2008 Northeast Conference (NEC) Preseason Coaches Poll announced by the league office late yesterday. This season's poll has predicted the Seahawks to finish as they did in last year's NEC Championships. "The conference is tough this year," commented head coach Joe Stasi, who returns to the Seahawks for his 12th season. "But don't be surprised to see us climbing our way through the league. We have some very good athletes who are showing great promise this year." This promise has already shown itself on the track as the Seahawks competed in their first meet of the season last Sunday at the Seton Hall Open in South Orange, NJ. Junior Alaina Alfano (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) and sophomore Amanda Gland (Woodbury, CT/Nonnewaug) walked away with school records as Alfano bested her previous record in the long jump from 2006 with a 5.64 meter leap while Gland took over the top spot in the triple jump with an 11.16 meter performance that propelled her past previous record holder Kristin Risch. The Seahawks hit the track on Friday as they take on the competition in the Fordham Invitational in Bronx, NY. Meet begins at 3 PM. |
