Junior Alaina Alfano took first place in the long jump

Complete Results

Dec. 4, 2007

South Orange, NJ - The Wagner track & field team opened up the indoor season at the Seton Hall Open. This is the second year in a row the Seahawks started the year in South Orange, NJ and though there was no team scoring, the team posted some very promising results.

Junior Alaina Alfano (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) started the year right where she left off last season where she went to the NCAA Regionals for the long jump. In South Orange, Alfano took the competition by storm by winning the event with a 5.64 meter jump, .13 meters farther than the closest competitor. She was also able to place 10th in the 60m dash with a time of 8.18 seconds while completing the 60m hurtles in 9.33 seconds, taking a fourth place finish.

Newcomer Danielle Diodati (Haver Hill, MA/Central Catholic) put an impressive first collegiate meet behind her with an 11th place finish in the 60m dash in 8.19 seconds while grabbing 6th in the 200m dash in 27.34.

In the field portion of the meet, seniors Gwendolyn Moore (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) and Crystal Smith (Zenda, WI/Big Foot) were a one-two combination as Moore took the top spot with a 12.77 meter throw while Smith was right behind with at 12.45 meters.

On the men's side of things senior Bryan Pagliuca (Ronkonkoma, NY/Connetquot) jumped 1.97 meters in the high jump bounding himself to a first place finish while freshman Frantz Placide (Miami, FL/Archbishop Curley Notre) sprung himself to a first place finish of his own in the triple jump with a 13.82m performance. Freshman Brian Doxey (West Islip, NY/West Islip) converted his long winded runs from the cross-country field to the indoor track and was able to capture a seventh place finish in the 1-mile run with a time of 4:53.91.

The Seahawks return to action on December 7th, where they head to Bronx, NY for the Fordham Invitational.
