A former prep All-American who is slated to be the first freshman to open a season as the starting quarterback for Tech since Will Furrer in 1989 * May be the most highly-anticipated quarterback in school history * Made the most of his redshirt season * Traveled with the team during the fall and gained valuable knowledge by observing the Tech system from the sideline * Put in extra time studying film * Showed a willingness to do whatever the coaches asked him to do * Picked up a good awareness of the Tech offense * Earned the job in the first few weeks of spring practice * Possesses outstanding talent and a great arm * Has a quick release and can get the football to any part of the field * May be the best all-around athlete the Hokies have had at QB * Has gained the confidence of his teammates and has the personality it takes to become an outstanding leader * Benefited from being hit during the spring game * Is further along than most young quarterbacks because of his exposure to a sophisticated passing offense in high school * Has come a long way in his preparation to become a starter, but still lacks one main ingredient experience * Is expected to get plenty of that this fall *

1998: Got a lot of work during preseason practice * Dressed for every game but never saw action * Worked hard in the strength and conditioning program during the winter * Bench pressed 320 pounds, posted a 38-inch vertical jump and ran a 4.33 forty on the way to Iron Hokie honors * Completed 6 of 11 passes for 73 yards in one spring scrimmage and was 6-for-11 for 79 yards and a touchdown in another * Ran for one touchdown during the scrimmages * Completed just 3 of 10 passes for 35 yards and one interception during the annual spring game * But was the second leading rusher in the contest with 43 yards on 10 carries * Won the Paul Torgersen Award as the team's top offensive newcomer *

High School: A three-year starter for Coach Tommy Reamon at Warwick High * Listed as the No. 5 quarterback prospect in the nation by SuperPrep * Was a preseason and postseason All-America pick by both SuperPrep and PrepStar * Also gained postseason A-A honors from The National Recruiting Advisor * Ranked the No. 5 pass/run quarterback recruit in the country by NRA * Finished as the No. 11 running/passing QB in Tom Lemming's postseason report * Was selected as the No. 3 prospect in Virginia by The Roanoke Times * Passed for 4,846 yards and 43 touchdowns during his career * Added 1,048 yards and 18 TDs on the ground * Contributed 1,668 yards passing as a senior * Accounted for 20 touchdowns, 10 rushing and 10 passing * Accounted for 295 yards passing against Hampton *

Personal: Michael Dwayne Vick * Born 6/26/80 in Newport News, VA * Son of Brenda Boddie * Is studying sociology.
