Wolverines Split Matches to Close Out Season
Recap : Match 1 Box Score : Match 2 Box Score : Cumulative Stats OREM, Utah -The Utah Valley State volleyball team won its first match in Saturday's Independent Volleyball Championship by beating the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders 30-19, 30-25, 30-24. In the second match of the day they lost to Northern Colorado 27-30, 30-26, 30-24, 30-24. Wallauer was instrumental in leading the Wolverines to the win over Texas A&M Corpus Christi. She led the attack with 19 kills and a .457 hitting percentage. She also recorded 15 digs. -Alina was on fire,- Atoa said. -It was good to see that. It's fun to see that especially in her final day as a Wolverine.- Along with Wallauer's performance, the Wolverines were solid in all areas of the game. They hit .289 as a team and held Texas A&M Corpus Christi to a .145 hitting percentage. -We really controlled the match,- Atoa said. -In all parts of the game we played well. It's the best we've played in a long time.- Stephanie McFarland also had a solid night with nine kills. Utah Valley jumped out to a 4-0 early in game 1. The Islanders tied the game at 4-4. Utah Valley then took the lead for good at 5-4 following a Wallauer kill. The Wolverines quickly extended their lead and cruised to the win. IPFW won the 2004 Independent Volleyball Championship while South Dakota State finished in second place and Northern Colorado third.
