Wallauer, Hoyt Receive Player of the Week Honors
OREM, Utah - Utah Valley State outside hitter Alina Wallauer, and libero Maegan Hoyt received Division I Independent -€śPlayer of the Week-€ť honors for their performances against BYU and Northern Colorado the week of October 25-31. Wallauer was honored as the -€śOffensive Player of the Week,-€ť and Hoyt was named -€śDefensive Player of the Week.-€ť Wallauer recorded two double-doubles in matches against BYU and Northern Colorado. Against BYU she had 15 kills and 12 digs. In the Northern Colorado match she tallied 19 kills and 17 digs, hitting .312 on 48 attacks and only four errors. Wallauer had 195 kills on the year and improved her kills per game average to 3.20. She is second on the team with nine double-doubles this year. Hoyt was all over the court in two matches this week against in-state rival BYU and, fellow Division I Independent Northern Colorado, including a record breaking performance against UNC. In the UNC match, Hoyt broke a single match school record with 33 digs (with only 1 ball handling error), including 10 in the fourth game. She elapsed the former record (26) by two going into the fifth and deciding game, and then tallied five more digs in final set for good measure. Against BYU she notched a match-high 18 digs with no ball handling errors. For the week she averaged a gouty 5.6 digs/game. The awards were the first of the season for Wallauer and Hoyt and the sixth and seventh awards for UVSC this year. Freshman middle blocker, Jessica Endres was named the Newcomer of the Week on September 14 th , and Lacee Koelliker was named Setter of the Week on September 21 st , and October 12 th , and Deise Borghetti was named -€śOffensive Player of the Week-€ť on September 21 st , and October 19 th . This season, eight Division I Independent schools have grouped together to select Player of the Week awards. Those teams are Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas-Pan American, IPFW, Northern Colorado, South Dakota State, North Dakota State, Providence, and UVSC. Awards are voted on by participating team sports information directors and released each Tuesday.
