Wolverines Sweep Boise State

OREM, Utah -€“  It wasn-€™t perfect but it was sure close. On Thursday, the Utah Valley State Volleyball team swept Boise State 30-13, 30-23, 32-30 in its final regular season home match.

Seniors-€™ Alina Wallauer and Deise Borghetti led the Wolverine offensive fireworks with 11 kills apiece. Wallauer also added 11 digs. Utah Valley turned in a solid defensive outting by holding Boise State to a .117 hitting percentage. In the first two games Boise hit .023 and .071.  The impressive defensive performance resulted in a nice all-around offensive performance.

In game 1, Utah Valley recorded an impressive .452 hitting percentage and had no errors.

The Wolverines jumped out to an early 10-2 lead in game 1 and later extended it to 23-8 on a Boise State hitting error. Wallauer closed out game 1 by connecting on three consecutive kills. Utah Valley maintained command of the match by jumping out to a 12-7 lead in game 2. Boise State rallied to tie the game at 13-13, but the Wolverines quickly regained the lead at 16-13.

Utah Valley State held a slim 20-19 lead but then scored five straight points to lead 25-19.  A Boise State service error gave Utah Valley the win.
The only time the Wolverines-€™ trailed in the match came in game 3. Boise State jumped out to a 1-0, 2-1, 5-4, 6-4 and 6-5 lead. A Lacee Koelliker block tied the game at 6-6 for the Wolverines and a Jessica Endres kill gave the Wolverines the lead for good at 7-6.

Boise State tied the game several times in the final game but never took the lead.

The Wolverines play at Northern Colorado on Saturday. They host the Independent Championships at the McKay Center Nov. 11-13.
