Borghetti Named Division I Independent Offensive Player of the Week

OREM, Utah - Utah Valley State senior rightside hitter, Deise Borghetti was named the NCAA Division I Independent -€śOffensive Player of the Week-€ť for her performances against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Texas-Pan American last week.

Borghetti helped Utah Valley State go 2-0 over the fellow Division I Independents. In two matches she had 100 attempts and notched 48 kills with only 12 errors (.333) and averaged 6.0 kills/game. Against TAMUCC the southpaw tallied a match-high 18 kills and hit .256 in a three game sweep of the Islanders. Against UTPA she finished with a UVSC D-I record 30 kills to go along with 15 digs and hit an impressive .410 on route to her sixth double-double of the year. The Wolverines got down 2-0 against the Broncs, but UVSC, sparked by Borghetti came back to win the final three games and closed out the match. On the season she improved her kills per game average from 3.98 to 4.27.

The award was the second of the season for Borghetti as she also received the honor on September 21st . It was the fifth award for UVSC this year. Freshman middle blocker, Jessica Endres was named the Newcomer of the Week on September 14th, and Lacee Koelliker was named Setter of the Week on September 21st , and October 12th .  

Borghetti shares the weekly award with Erin Deffenbaugh of Northern Colorado.

This season, eight Division I Independent schools have grouped together to select Player of the Week awards. Those teams are Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas-Pan American, IPFW, Northern Colorado, South Dakota State, North Dakota State, Providence, and UVSC. Awards are voted on by participating team sports information directors and released each Tuesday.
