Borghetti Pounds Out 30 Kills in Come-From-Behind Win
Recap : Box Score : Cumulative Stats Borghetti had only five errors in 61 total attempts and hit an impressive .410 on the night. -Deise [Borghetti] was incredible,- said head coach Sam Atoa. -She carried us all the way through. Thirty kills! That has to be some kind of a record.- Atoa was right. Borghetti-s 30 kills is a record in UVSC-s short history as a Division I program. The senior southpaw out of Medianeira, Brazil also had 15 digs on way to her sixth double-double of the year. The Wolverines didn-t make the come back easy. After winning games three and four and forcing a fifth and deciding game the Wolverines fell behind in the final frame 9-3. -It was their will and desire,- said Atoa about what happened next. -They weren-t going to fold and they battled hard.- The battle back came in the form of a 12-3 Wolverine run to steal the game and the match from the Broncs. -It was amazing,- added Atoa. UVSC setter Lacee Koelliker found Borghetti time and time again, helping the Wolverine offense hit at a .252 clip for the match. Koelliker tallied her second double-double in as many nights and was two kills away from a triple-double. She finished with 40 assists, 18 digs, and 8 kills. She leads the team with nine double-doubles on the season. Krystal Taylor also had another solid night with 12 kills. Atoa said the turnaround after the first two games was due to a more balanced attack. With the win, UVSC gets back to .500 on the season at 8-8. The Wolverines will try to make another run on Tuesday as they travel to in-state rival Weber State for a 7:00 p.m. (MST) match.
