Volleyball Travels to Idaho State
Utah Valley State (5-3) vs. Idaho State University (3-10) Location: Pocatello, Idaho OREM, Utah - The Utah Valley State volleyball team will travel to Pocatello, Idaho to play Idaho State University on Tuesday, September 21 st . Wolverine Update: UVSC finished 2-2 in the tournament, losing 30-24, 30-21, 30-15, to the host Pilots who went a perfect 4-0 to take the title. -I thought we had a great tournament, finishing second,- said head coach Sam Atoa. -I am proud of the girls coming out here and competing as well as they did against four good teams.- UVSC didn't have any players in double-figure kills for the first time this season. Borghetti finished one shy with nine, and setter Lacee Koelliker had eight kills to go along with her 28 assists. Borghetti did have a team-high 11 digs, and Wallauer tallied nine. Borghetti earns All-Tournament honors for the second straight week, having been the only UVSC player to be named to the All-Tourney team in the BYU/Mizuno Classic week. She had two matches with 20-plus kills (26 against UC-Davis, and 22 against Cal Poly-SLO) and in four matches averaged a double-double with 17 kills and 10.25 digs per match. Wallauer was just as impressive, notching a 20 kill, 23 dig match against Cal Poly. For the tournament Wallauer also averaged a double-double with 14.25 kills and 15.75 digs per match. The Wolverines claimed second-place, Portland State finished in third place, Cal Poly was fourth and UC Davis finished in fifth-place. Borghetti Honored Two Weeks in a Row: Endres Named Newcomer of the Week: Endres, a true freshman from Gilbert, Arizona, helped the Wolverines go 2-1 in the Mizuno Classic. UVSC sandwiched wins over Central Florida and Memphis around a loss to Oklahoma. Against UCF Endres was called upon 20 different times, notching 13 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Against OU she tallied seven kills, and against Memphis, Endres carried the team with a match-high 17 kills, while hitting an impressive .536. The award was the first of the season for Endres, and it is the first award for UVSC this year. This season, eight Division I Independent schools have grouped together to elect Player of the Week awards. Those teams are Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas-Pan American, IPFW, Northern Colorado, South Dakota State, North Dakota State, Providence, and Utah Valley State. Awards are voted on by participating team sports information directors and released each Tuesday. Last Year's Post Season Honors: Wallauer (173 K, 2.37 K/G) received two honors as she was named the D-I Independent -Newcomer of the Year,- and to the All-Independent Second Team.
