Wolverines Give Knights Rude Welcoming

OREM, Utah - The Utah Valley State spikers, led by Brazilians Deise Borghettiand Alina Wallauer, welcomed the University of Central Florida to Orem by beatingthe Knights in four games, 30-28, 31-33, 30-17, 30-25, Friday night in the Wolverineshome opener.

Borghetti pounded out 21 kills, while Wallauer added 19. Freshman Jessica Endreshit an impressive .500 and blasted out 13 kills herself.

Sophomore setter, Lacee Koelliker made the offense run smoothly as she distributeda match-high 55 assists, and also notched 19 digs on the defensive side. UVSCout-hit UCF on the night .238 to .141.

Games one and two were back and forth with each team winning one game apieceby two points. UCF took game two, despite the Brazilian duo banging out 14 kills.Wallauer had eight and Borghetti had six.

In game three, the Wolverines pulled away led by seven Koelliker digs, five Wallauerkills, and five kills by Malia Hoyt. Hoyt hit .556 in the game to give UVSC anice spark off the bench.

Borghetti took control in the final game, hitting .500 with seven kills to securethe victory and give the Knights their fourth straight loss. UCF falls to 0-4on the year, while the Wolverines have won two in a row and improve to 2-1 onthe season.

For UCF, Emily Watts and Tanya Jarvis led the offense tallying 13 kills apiece.Jana Mitchell added 10 and hit .292. Defensively for the Knights, Michelle Spaletahad a nice night finishing with a match-high 22 digs.

The Wolverines will continue playing in the BYU/Mizuno Classic with two matchestomorrow at BYU's Smith Fieldhouse. UVSC plays the 10:00 am match against Big12 foe, Oklahoma, and then comes back to play the 5:30 pm match versus Memphis.
