OREM, Utah - The Utah Valley State volleyball team will host the University of Central Florida in its home opener as part of the BYU/Mizuno Classic on Friday, September 10th, and then will play University of Oklahoma and University of Memphis at BYU on Saturday, September 11th. Friday night-s game is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm (MST) in the Activity Center. The Wolverines will play the 10:00 am (MST) game against OU and then come back to play in the 5:30 pm (MST) game against UM, both games will be played at the BYU-s Smith Fieldhouse.
Wolverine Update:
The Wolverines (1-1) are coming off a solid three game sweep of the University of Montana on Tuesday night. Senior southpaw rightside hitter, Deise Borghetti notched a match-high 16 kills as the UVSC spoiled the Grizzlies home opener, 30-27, 30-28, 30-28, at Auxiliary Gym. Borghetti hit .333 on the night, only making 3 attack errors in 39 total attempts.
UVSC setter Lacee Koelliker distributed the ball well helping the Wolverine offense to a respectable .288 team hitting percentage. Koelliker ended the night with a match-high 40 assists, and dumped in four kills herself. Freshman Jessica Endres also had a solid night hitting at a .467 clip with nine kills and Alina Wallauer added eight kills and a match-high 11 digs.
In two matches, Borghetti leads the Wolverines offensively with 22 kills. Alina Wallauer has notched 19 kills, and freshman Jessica Endres has contributed with 16 kills.
UVSC returns three players who received NCAA Division I Independent honors last year. They are outside hitters Alina Wallauer and Krystal Peterson, and setter Lacee Koelliker.
Wallauer (173 K, 2.37 K/G) received two honors as she was named the D-I Independent -Newcomer of the Year,- and to the All-Independent Second Team. Koelliker (379 A, 4.51 A/G) and Peterson (109 K, 1.85 K/G) were both named to the Independent All-Freshman Team.
Scouting the Opposition:
Central Florida: UCF comes into Friday-s match sitting at 0-3 after a tough opening weekend, dropping two matches to LSU 1-3, 0-3 and one match to Rice 0-3.
The Knights will begin the Mizuno Classic matched up against the Wolverines Friday night at UVSC before competing against Memphis Saturday afternoon and BYU Saturday night in Provo.
Oklahoma: OU is off to a 4-0 start entering the Mizuno Classic. The Sooners are 1-0 at home and 3-0 on the road after defeating Providence 3-0 in their season-opener at home and then earning wins over Louisiana-Monroe, Grambling State and Texas-Pan American. In those matches only UTPA was able to pick up a game verses the Sooners, losing 3-2.
The Sooners will open the Classic against Memphis Friday at noon before taking on the Wolverines Saturday at 10:00 am (MST) and then the Cougars at 2:30 pm (MST).
Memphis: Memphis began its season hosting the annual Memphis Invitational.
The Tigers went 4-0 over the two-day event, earning wins over Tennessee State,
Alabama A&M, Delaware State and UIC. In a dominating weekend performance,
the Tigers swept all four teams and have yet to lose a game this season.
Memphis will be in action Thursday night at Weber State before taking on
Oklahoma and BYU on Friday night and UCF and UVSC on Saturday.

The Wolverines will travel to Portland, Oregon to play in the Nike Portland Pilot Invitational September 16-18. The Wolverines play UC Davis on September 16th at 6:00 pm (MST), and Cal Poly-SLO on September 17th at 12:00 pm (MST). On September 18th UVSC will play a doubleheader with the 11:00 am (MST) game against Portland State and the 8:30 pm (MST) game against host, University of Portland.
