Wolverines Host Idaho State on Saturday
May 4, 2007 Orem, UT- The Utah Valley State softball team hosts Idaho State in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. Utah Valley leads the season series 4-1. UV opened the season beating Idaho State 11-5 in St. George and then defeated ISU twice at the Saint Mary's Invitational, 8-4 and 7-3. In a recent doubleheader in Pocatello, the Wolverines lost game 1, 3-2 and won game 2, 4-2. Utah Valley enters Saturday's contest with a 22-27 record after a 12-3 six inning loss to BYU on Tuesday. The Wolverines have improved on their win total each of the last three seasons. This year's 22 wins tops last years mark of 15. Heidi Boyer leads Utah Valley with 10 homeruns, 40 RBI and a .416 average. Jackie Roberts is 7-2 with a 2.00 era in her last nine appearances and she is 10-9 overall. Corie Jensen and Jasmine Joyce are all hitting over .300 on the season. Cari Hamilton has set the career record for walks with 44. Idaho State is 9-31 but has won five of its last eight games. Heather Dixon leads the Bengals with 11 homeruns and 26 RBI. Lindsay Boughton leads ISU in the circle with seven wins and a 4.38 era in 148.2 innings of work. Following Saturday's game, UV concludes the 2007 season with a home game against BYU. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. and it will be the final game for seniors Jackie Roberts and Cari Hamilton. |
