OREM, Utah - After a week of preparation following its final exhibition game, Utah Valley will take to the field in its season opener to battle in-state foe Southern Utah Friday at Wolverine Field. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.

"We're excited for our game with Southern Utah," UV head coach Brent Anderson said. "We've been working hard on our formations, tactics and fitness in practice. Hopefully, we have learned some lessons from our preseason games that will help us against Southern Utah."

The Wolverines and Thunderbirds face off for the fourth consecutive season. UV will be looking to maintain its perfect record against SUU as the Wolverines have won the previous three games.

The game will be the season-opener for both Utah Valley and Southern Utah. This season marks the first year UV has played SUU in its first game of the season. The Wolverines enjoy a 3-0-0 record against the Thunderbirds including a thrilling, come-from-behind overtime win last season. All of the previous three games have been close, with Utah Valley winning each by just one goal.

This year's game will be the second played in Orem. In 2005, UV beat SUU 2-1 on the Wolverines' home field. The games in 2004 and 2006 were played in Cedar City. Of the five possible in-state Division I soccer programs, Utah Valley enjoys its best record against SUU.

After Friday's game, Utah Valley will begin a four-game road swing when the Wolverines head to Albuquerque, N.M. to take on New Mexico and Long Island.
