OREM, Utah - Utah Valley kicks off its 2007 season as the Wolverines welcome Weber State to Orem for a season-opening exhibition game at 11 a.m. on Wolverine Field. UV will be looking to improve upon its 7-10-2 record from a year ago. This year marks the second consecutive year the Wolverines and Wildcats have met early in exhibition play. Utah Valley will bring to the field a new-look squad with 12 freshmen and 14 playing in their first seasons as Wolverines. "Tim Crompton [Weber State's head coach] is a very good coach," UV head coach Brent Anderson said. "His teams are always well prepared and organized. Weber State has great team speed and strength. This will be a good matchup for us to see where we are at this point of the preseason." Weber State owns a 2-1-0 record against Utah Valley. The two teams faced off in exhibition play last year with the Wildcats taking a 3-1 win in Ogden. The two teams have faced off just once in Orem with Weber State winning 1-0 in August 2005. The Wolverines only win came in their first Division I season when they beat Weber State 1-0 in Ogden. In the four previous games against Weber State (last year's exhibition game included) UV has scored more than one goal only once, a 5-2 defeat in 2004. After the Wolverines play Weber State, they play at Idaho State on Friday in their second--and final--exhibition game. UV begins regular season play on Aug. 31 when the Wolverines host Southern Utah. |
