OREM, Utah - In wet, frigid conditions Utah Valley set a new school record for shots in a game as the Wolverines fired 49, five that found the net in a 5-1 victory over Delaware State.

With the win, UV improved to 4-11-2 on the season and 4-1 in United Soccer Conference play. The victory also clinches the second seed in the upcoming USC Tournament.

"It's awesome to have the two weekend wins," UV head coach Brent Anderson said. "It's a great confidence boost for the girls and great for our placement in the (USC) tournament."

The Wolverines were led by Adrienne Schneider's two goals and one assist. Jenni Clough, Lauren Bluth and Sara Walker also added goals in the game. DSU's goal came courtesy of an own-goal.

UV got out of the gate early, scoring in the 10th minute. Schneider dropped a nice entry pass to Clough who got free in the box and beat the keeper to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.

DSU tied the score 10 minutes later when UV was trying to shift to the opposite side of the field. A pass got past the Wolverines Mallory Schott and found the goal to tie the score at one.

The Wolverines responded just four minutes later when Schneider picked up a loose ball on the left angle and fired a shot from 20 yards out that curled inside the far post. The goal proved to be the game winner.

UV added its third goal of the half when Lauren Bluth made a penalty kick. Bluth was awarded the penalty kick when her header was intentionally deflected with a hand ball in the 18-yard box. She found the left side of the net on her penalty kick to give the Wolverines a 3-1 lead.

UV out-shot the Hornets 24-1 in the first half and 25-1 in the second stanza.

"Our defense played very well again," Anderson said. "They didn't allow a shot on goal which is impressive. I think our new line up and formation is working for us."

In the 72nd minute, Schneider got her second goal when she headed in a corner kick off the foot of Walker. The header found the right-corner of the net.

The final goal came in the 85th minute when Walker scored on a nice cross from Clough.

"All of our girls worked hard today," Anderson said. "They were a little fatigued playing on back-to-back days. But, they fought through it."

UV will return to action when the Wolverines head to SUU to finish its home-and-home series with the Thunderbirds.
