NAU Scores Twice in Second Half to Beat UV
Sept. 21, 2007
OREM, Utah - After a even first half, Northern Arizona scored two goals in the second period on its way to a 2-0 victory over the Wolverines. UV (0-5-1) played tough in the first half, coming up with the best scoring opportunity. With 20 minutes remaining in the first half, Jenni Clough found Shantae Adams alone in the box. Adams found the net but the goal was negated when the officials deemed Adams offsides. The first half was back and forth from there with each team possesing the ball in equal amounts. The Lumberjacks fired eight shots in the stanza compared to the Wolverines three. "We played some good soccer at times," UV head coach Brent Anderson said. "After their (NAU's) first goal we had a tough time mentally getting back into the game." Just 39 seconds into the second half, NAU cleared the ball that reached the top of the box. UV's Mallory Schott went to pick up the ball which was deflected to NAU's Brenna Boies. Boies popped the ball over Schott's head into the net to give the Lumberjacks a 1-0 lead. NAU's second goal came nine minutes later when Karri Currier headed a corner into the back of the net. UV had opportunites late with Clough and Adams getting shots on goal in the final 15 minutes. Adams shot was saved by an NAU defender who retreated with the Lumberjacks keeper out of position. The Wolverines will take to the road next week when they head to the East Coast to start United Soccer Conference play in Washington D.C. UV will play at Howard Sept. 26. |
