UTEP Shuts Out Wolverines 2-0

Sept. 21, 2006

Orem, UT- The Utah Valley State soccer team lost 2-0 to UTEP on Thursday. The game was scoreless at halftime before the Miners scored their first goal in the 60th minute and added another one in the 76th minute to earn the win.

"UTEP is a very good team," Utah Valley State coach Brent Anderson said. "We came out a little flat to start the game. We started the second half a little better. But the thing I was disappointed in was that we came away with only two shots on goal. With the attack we have that is not good enough. We made their job easy not getting into the box and going to goal. "

Utah Valley was out shot 23-6 for the game. The Miners Melissa Abraham scored on a shot taken from just outside the 18. Tameka Sumter assisted on the goal.

Kristin Wernimont tallied the final goal off a corner kick taken by Anoop Josan.

Utah Valley goalkeeper Kelley Thompson kept the Wolverines in the game by coming up with 11 saves.

"Kelley came up with some big saves today," Anderson said. "She is great at shot blocking"

The Wolverines host Centenary College of the Mid-Continent Conference on Saturday at 1 p.m.
