Wolverines Shut Out Idaho
Sept. 15, 2006 Moscow, ID- The Utah Valley State soccer team picked up a big 2-0 road win over the University of Idaho on Friday. The win ups the Wolverines record to 3-3-1. The Wolverines took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute thanks to an own goal by Idaho goal keeper Michelle Jordan. On the play Courtney Robbins blasted a kick from 35-yards out but as the keeper caught the ball she fell back inside the goal. "We controlled play in the first half very well," Utah Valley State coach Brent Anderson said. "We had the wind at our backs so we really pushed the attack. They had more shots than us in the second half but there weren't any really dangerous looks on goal." Robbins tallied the games final goal when she scored off a beautiful cross pass from Jenni Wright in the 73rd minute. Wright dribbled across three Idaho defenders and crossed into the middle of the field where she found Robbins for the goal. Kelley Thompson earned the shut out as she came up with nine saves. "She played very well today," Anderson said. Anderson said one of the most positives things that came from the win was that freshmen, Athena Bradshaw, Kasey Turley, Kara Adams, Capri Stevens, Natalie Hatfiefld and Brooke Blaser all played well. Bradshaw had two of the Wolverines shot attempts. "They came into the game and contributed offensively and defensively," Anderson said. The Wolverines return to action on Sunday when they play at Gonzaga. |
