Wolverines Knock off Tulsa 2-1

Laramie, WYO- The Utah Valley State soccer team earned its first win of the season on Sunday by beating Tulsa 2-1 in the final day of the Cowgirl Shootout. "We had a game plan and we stuck to it," Utah Valley State coach Brent Anderson said. "The girls were consistent in their play all day. It was an incredible team effort. Every single person did their part and did it perfectly." Utah Valley out shot Tulsa 16-8 and had eight shots on goal compared to Tulsa's five. UV took the lead in the 15th minute when Chelsea Stone got her foot on the ball during a scramble for the ball in front of the goal. Tulsa tied the game at one in the 21st minute. In the 68th minute Jenni Wright scored on a rebound shot taken by Courtney Robbins to give the Wolverines the lead for good at 2-1. "We had a lot of numbers going forward into the attack," Anderson said. "It made it easier to create scoring opportunities." Stone and Alyssa Woodbury were named to the All-Tournament team. The Wolverines return to action next weekend when the play at IPFW.
