Wolverines Drop Season Opener

Laramie, WYO- The Utah Valley State soccer team gave up two goals in the first five minutes of the game and lost 3-0 to Montana on Friday in the first game of the Cowgirl Shootout.

"You take away the first five minutes and we had a game on our hands," Utah Valley State coach Brent Anderson said. "Once we decided to play we gave them a game."

The Wolverines were out shot 21-9 for the game. Chelsea Stone and Megan Berrett each fired two shots. Stone had a shot in the second half that bounced off the cross bar.

"We played well and were more organized in the attack," Anderson said.

Montana scored its first goal in the second minute and the second goal in the fourth minute. The Grizzlies tallied their final goal of the game in the 68th minute.

Despite the loss Anderson said he was pleased with the play of Brooke Roberts, Addie Hair, Alyssa Woodbury, Natalee Davis and Ashley Skeen.

Utah Valley State returns to action on Sunday when they play Tulsa in the final day of the Cowgirl Shootout at 11 a.m.
