OREM, Utah - After a tight first half, Weber State found the goal in the 66th minute to hand Utah Valley a 1-0 defeat to begin the Wolverines' 2007 exhibition play.

The Wolverines had a few scoring opportunities throughout the game, but were unable to convert. The Wildcats kept the pressure on, out-shooting UV11-2 in the second half and 16-4 in the game.

"Weber State is a good team," Utah Valley head coach Brent Anderson said. "But we have to create more chances to score goals."

UV junior goalkeeper Mallory Schott had five saves in 60 minutes of play.

"Mallory came up big for us today," Anderson said. "Today being an exhibition game we wanted to get everyone an opportunity to play."

In the first half UV picked up a pair of shots, including one on goal by freshman Nicole Archibald. Archibald's shot from 25 yards out took a leaping stab by Weber State goalkeeper Rebecca Ritchie to prevent a goal.

The Wildcats got on the board in the second half when Lauren Parkhurst dropped off a pass to Natalie Blaylock who got free in the box. Blaylock lobbed the ball over goalkeeper Hailey Brown to find the right-corner of the net.

Later in the half, UV freshman Katey Turner got free with Jenni Clough on a two-on-one opportunity. WSU came up with a big slide tackle to knock the ball free, preventing the Wolverines from getting a shot off.

Utah Valley continues its exhibition play Friday when the Wolverines travel to Pocatello to take on Idaho State at 1 p.m.
