The women-s program did have enough players on its roster in the fall to compete as a team, but due to injuries and getting players eligible it didn-t come to pass.
-The student-athletes that did play as individuals did a fine job and represented us well,- said Larson.
The four golfers that did compete for UV during the inaugural fall season were: Ashley Baldwin, Whitney Drumright, Shari Johnson, and Kasey Larson.
Baldwin shot the lowest tournament round and the two lowest single rounds during the fall season. She recorded an 11-over 157 at the Cal Poly Invitational (Nov. 7-8) and finished in the top-25. Her rounds of 77 in the second round of the Cal Poly Invitational and 78 in the first round of the Lady Aztec Invitational (Oct. 17-18) put her at the top of the UV record book.
Due to an injury, Drumright only competed in one fall tournament, but played well and tied for the second best tournament finish in the program-s young Division I history. She shot a 26-over 172 at the NAU Mountain Shootout (Sept. 19-20).
Johnson competed in two fall tournaments. Her best single round was an 84 in the first round of the Lady Aztec Invitational, and her best tournament finish was in the NAU Mountain Shootout (189).
Larson also competed in two fall events, with her best round tying Drumright for the second best tournament finish. It was a 26-over 172 in the Cal Poly Invitational. Her best 18-holes came in the first round of the same tournament (85).
-I am encouraged by the members of my team and the work ethic they have shown,- said Coach Larson. -We have a great schedule of tournaments and a wonderful opportunity to get our program competing at the level we need to be at.- Β
