Kaysville, Utah - Ashley MacKay fired a 3-over 74 to lead Utah Valley to a second place finish at the Weber State Wildcat Women's Invitational at Davis Park Golf Course in Kaysville on Friday.

The Wolverines posted a team score of 312 to finish six strokes ahead of Idaho State while host Weber State totaled 296 to win the three-team event.

MacKay's round equaled her career best and also tied her for third place. She shot a 3-over 75 at the par-72 Bobcat Desert Classic during the spring 2007 season.

"Mentally, she just got herself in a good groove and played confident," said head coach Denise Larson. "Hopefully she'll use today to build on more good rounds and build her confidence even more.

Utah Valley had three players shoot in the 70's, with Echo Thatcher posting a 76 and Kasey Larson shot a 78.

"Right now there are two players that consistently will shoot in the 70's for us," said Larson. "Getting that third player can make or break a round for us and today we got what we needed from Kasey."

Jade Dickson fired an 84 for the Wolverines while Abbie Lei Archibald posted an 89 to round out the UV golfers competing as part of the team score. Sarah Coop, playing individually, shot 90.

Weber State's Natalie Weber shot a 2-under 69 to win the individual title.

The Wolverines will be off until October 15th when they play at the San Diego State Invitational.
